Effective art education should focus the student on their thinking rather than the instructor's. Successfully educated
students find opportunities within their own work and can make art beyond school.
Studio time is about the individual, about making decisions.
Studio time is about the group, it is physical and communal.
Working on one's own can be confusing. Sometimes it's a matter of establishing the proper pace or tempo. The
rhythm of making art pulses between execution and evaluation. Back and forth.
Looking at artwork should reinforce an artist's intuitive decision-making process.
I like to begin by pointing out the obvious — often it's overlooked as too obvious.
