Gina Westergard is an Associate Professor of Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design and the Director of Graduate Studies in Art & Design at the University of Kansas. She received her M.F.A. from Indiana University in 1991, studying with Randy Long. She completed her B.A. at San Diego State University in 1988, working with Arline Fisch and Helen Shirk.   She was graduated Cum Laude with Distinction in Art.   Both degrees are in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design.

Awards and grants in recognition of her creative work include a Mid-American Art Alliance/NEA Fellowship; a Juror's Award from the 18 th Annual Materials Hard and Soft Exhibition, Meadows Gallery, Center for the Visual Arts, Denton TX ; a Juror's Award from the Precious Metals Exhibition, at Galleria Mesa, Mesa, AZ; two General Research Funds and two Hallmark Enhancement Grants from the University of Kansas, 2004-2005.

She has exhibited her work nationally for twenty years in venues that include:   Fortunoff, New York, NY; The National Ornamental Metals Museum, Memphis, TN; The California Crafts Museum in San Francisco, CA; The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, New Castle, PA; The Downey Museum of Art, Downey, CA; and I-Space Gallery, Chicago.   Metalsmith Magazine reviewed her work in "Discoveries Within," Summer 2000;   "Intimate Assemblages," Summer 1997; and "Gina Westergard, The Point of Balance - Pendants and Sculptural Displays," Spring 1994.   Her work has also appeared in the American Craft Portfolio Review, April/May 1997.
