Professor Shellhorn was appointed to the Visual Communication faculty in fall 2006. Prior to this appointment, Jeremy was an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication Design at Herron School of Art and Design, Indiana University in Indianapolis from 2002-2006. Before becoming a design educator he was designer and art director for EAT Advertising and Design, Kansas City, Missouri. His clients included the Kansas Beef Council, Sunflower Broadband, Bushnell Performance Optics, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City Art Institute, Organized Living and Butler Manufacturing. He has also donated his time and design work to several charitable organizations including the Central Exchange and The Urban League. His work has been recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), Graphic Design USA and the Advertising Club of Kansas City.
Besides his applied professional design practice, his current research is in the areas of cognition and culture as they relate to design artifacts. Jeremy explores strategies for designing experiences and artifacts that facilitate engagement, understanding and learning.
Jeremy graduated from University of Kansas with a BFA degree
(1999) in Graphic Design and from North Carolina State University,
Raleigh with a Master of Design degree (2002).
