It's time for the second annual
Band Spectacular!

Enjoy a Sunday afternoon on Nov. 19th at KU's Band Spectacular! at the Lied Center. The program features performances from the top ensembles of the KU Band program: the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble I, the Marching Jayhawks, and the Men's Basketball Band. Plus, the bands will be joined by guest artist Jon Lewis, top-call freelance trumpet player from Los Angeles and a KU alum. This fundraising event for KU Band students is the only opportunity to see the top bands perform in one location. Don't forget your camera! Big Jay and Baby Jay will pose for pictures after the event.

University Dance Company performs Nov. 16th & 17th at the Lied Center
The University Dance Company Fall Concert features a contemporary ballet by guest artist and former Joffrey principal Carl Corry, two major revivals by Muriel Cohan, associate professor of dance, and Patrick Suzeau, associate professor of dance, and new works by resident faculty: an unconventional take on Baroque music by Willie Lenoir, instructor of dance, a Spanish-influenced ballet by Jerel Hilding, associate professor of dance and director of dance, and an earthy, contemporary work by Muriel Cohan. Art Department faculty members display work at MRB on West Campus
In a collaboration between the School of Fine Arts and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the works of three KU School of Fine Arts Department of Art faculty members are on display at the Multidisciplinary Research Building (MRB) on KU's Lawrence West Campus through fall 2007. The concept is to place contemporary visual art and science together in a setting exemplifying curiosity and intellectual inquiry regarding the human condition and our relationship to the natural world. Upcoming events at The Lied Center of Kansas
Cantus, men's vocal ensemble
Thursday, November 9, 7:30 p.m.
One of America's finest professional male vocal ensembles, Cantus' repertoire includes Renaissance motets, American folk music, spirituals and traditional hymns, as well as contemporary songs. The Minneapolis Star Tribune says that when the ensemble performs, "Music and mirth swirl like stripe on a candy cane."

Classical Savion, virtuoso of tap
Friday, November 10, 7:30 p.m.
Savion Glover, the Tony Award-winning choreographer of Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk will tap dance through classical works ranging from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, with a bit of jazz mixed in for good measure. He will be accompanied onstage by both classical and jazz musicians. Don't miss this exciting and energetic dance concert!
Ulali, First Nations a cappella women's trio
at Haskell Indian Nations University Auditorium
Saturday, November 11, 7:30 p.m.
From their traditional roots and personal contemporary style, Ulali crosses musical and cultural borders with a unique sound all their own. The trio performs wonderful harmonies of eclectic indigenous, pre-blues, gospel, and pre-Colombian (pre-borders) music. With powerful, soulful voices, Ulali's performances can be romantic and, at times, humorous.

Burning River Brass, holiday concert
Saturday, December 9, 7:30 p.m.
Share the festive holiday spirit with some of the finest brass and percussion players in the country. Their program will include O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, The Christmas Song, and more favorites. "These musicians are virtuosos," says the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Lorin Maazel conducts the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic
Sunday, January 21, 7:30 p.m.
The music director of the New York Philharmonic will lead 120 top, hand-picked European musicians in this concert honoring the 50th anniversary of Toscanini's death and re-creating his 1921 tour of the U.S. The program will include Rossini's Overture to The Barber of Seville, Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4; Respighi's Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome. Don't miss this rare musical event!
