Renowned performer Heather Harpham to visit KU

Wednesday, March 04, 2015

LAWRENCE — In partnership with the University of Kansas Department of Theatre, The Commons will host writer and performer Heather Harpham as Artist in Residence March 23-27. While on campus, Harpham will give two public presentations, lead a demonstration with students and perform her most recent solo show, "BURNING," which relies on movement, song, images, and spoken word to address climate change through a lens of comedy, tragedy, activism and cautious optimism.

Harpham has taught physical theatre and improvisation at many universities and conservatory programs, including Sarah Lawrence College, State University of New York-Purchase College and Muhlenberg College. Her highly kinetic solo shows and theatrical collaborations have been presented in venues throughout New York City and beyond, and many international festivals have featured her work.

An acclaimed writer, Harpham received the Brenda Ueland Prose Prize for fiction and was a 2009 nominee for a New York Innovative Theatre Award for her ensemble work with Company SoGoNo. MORE Magazine, Water-Stone Review and American Theatre magazine have published her work. She holds a master's degree in theatre and an MFA in creative writing, both from NYU. Learn more about Harpham at her website.
