Thomas Stidham Professor of Music, Associate Director of Bands

Thomas M. Stidham is Associate Director of Bands at the University of Kansas where he conducts the Symphonic Band, teaches courses in conducting, band literature, instrumental music education, directs the Men’s Basketball Band and assists in the administration of the KU Band program. He is active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator, and is resident conductor of both the junior high and senior high divisions of the Midwestern Music Camp at the University of Kansas. Stidham has been at KU since 1975.

Stidham's home state is Florida, where he received degrees from the University of Florida, and taught for five years in the public schools. He was graduate assistant with bands at the University of Florida and director of bands at Georgia Southern College for six years. He came to Kansas from Baylor University in Texas, where he was assistant director of bands and low brass teacher.

Stidham holds membership in numerous professional and honorary organizations. He is past-president of the Kansas Chapter of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Bandmasters Association, and has held several positions at the state and regional level in the College Band Directors National Association. He was elected to membership in the American Bandmasters Association in 1984.
