Gabriela Frank Notable composer creates piece for KU Wind Ensemble and University Dance Company

Gabriela Lena Frank, acclaimed composer and pianist, will travel to KU this semester to present the world premiere of a commissioned composition created for the KU Wind Ensemble and University Dance Company (UDC).  The work is entitled "Requiem for a Magical America: El Día de los Muertos," a piece Frank created based on Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead. KU School of Fine Arts holds 2nd annual Careers in the Arts event

Students interested in earning a fine arts degree received the opportunity to discuss career possibilities with KU fine arts alumni at the second annual School of Fine Arts Careers in the Arts day, held on Saturday, April 1, 2006.  This event, organized by KU's School of Fine Arts Career Services Center, took place in both Murphy Hall and the Art and Design Building and offered tracks for both art and design as well as music and dance students. DVD

KU’s School of Fine Arts to create promotional DVD

Plans for a KU School of Fine Arts promotional DVD are underway. The School of Fine Arts is working with the Arts and Digital Media Association, a KU student organization made up primarily of School of Fine Arts majors, to complete this initiative.  The DVD, which will be an 8-12 minute feature highlighting the various aspects of KU’s School of Fine Arts, will serve as a recruiting tool for prospective students and as an overall promotional tool for the School of Fine Arts. Taking its name from the Swahili word for "faith," this hip ensemble explores the boundaries between European, African and American music traditions, creating a unique sound all its own. Be sure not to miss this wonderful concert.

The Royal Carl Rosa Opera's award-winning production of Gilbert & Sullivan's classic The Mikado
Thursday, May 4, 7:30 p.m.

With characters such as the Lord High Executioner and the Lord High Everything Else, this satire on human nature has delighted audiences for more than a century. Experience this lavish re-creation of the original 1885 Savoy production as directed by W.S. Gilbert himself.
