University Theatre and Truity Credit Union host free reception for KU faculty and staff

Thursday, April 10, 2014

LAWRENCE— The University Theatre and Truity Credit Union will host a free reception for all University faculty and staff prior to the performance of the big band musical, “Over Here!,” on Friday, May 2, 6:30 p.m.

Faculty and staff will also receive a special $10 ticket price to the “Over Here!” May 2 performance. Stop by the University Theatre box office in Murphy Hall or call 785-864-3982 by Monday, April 28 to RSVP for the free reception and purchase tickets. The free reception will include wine and hors d’oeuvres.

“Several years ago after hosting our first KU staff night, we were overwhelmed by the gratitude from staff for the special night they received,” said Katherine Pryor, managing director of theatre. “We were so inspired by their response that we decided to make it an annual event. We are including faculty this year as well and are so excited to have them join us.”

“Over Here!” is a big dance show that really portrays the sheer joy and excitement of musical theatre. With a score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and book by Will Holt, “Over Here!” is a pastiche big band concert set in 1940s America. It takes a nostalgic look back at this post-war period while commenting on fears of war and discrimination. The story is about what was happening over here versus what was happening over there.

“Truity Credit Union has a long history and dedication to the University of Kansas and the Lawrence community,” said Jordan Schuette, Truity Credit Union business development officer. “As a corporate sponsor of the University Theatre, we are happy to provide an opportunity to give something back and support our rich arts community.”

Performances run April 25, 26 and May 2, 3 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 and May 4 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for “Over Here!” are on sale now at KU ticket offices and online at www.kutheatre.com. Tickets are also available by calling the University Theatre, (785) 864-3982, and the Lied Center, (785) 864-ARTS. Tickets on May 2 are $10 for KU faculty and staff. For all other performances, tickets are $20 for the public, $19 for senior citizens and KU faculty and staff, and $10 for students and children 5-18.
