The subject of my work could fit under some droll and inclusive title in the humanities like The Psychology of Culture or Psycho-American Studies. In Warholian fashion, I make use of appropriated images of popular icons in contemporary culture; in relativist fashion, I draw equally from anonymous images to express the universality of the human character. I consider my work to be reflective, if not diagnostic, of the human condition. In particular, I have been investigating gender, stereotype, power, and limitation through a social and psychological lens, and with a sardonic edge. I like to play the straight man off the comic, the statement of fact next to the irony.

My vision, gesture, and ideas filter through my knowledge and experience as a printmaker. As a printmaker, I am a generalist and a blasphemist. I am interested in the uniqueness of the printed mark, its beauty, depth, and security in contrast with other marks and materials. In my most recent work, I have been capitalizing on the strong, graphic qualities of woodcut which I often combine with a variety of other print techniques including collagraph, monotype, digital imaging as well as drawing and painting to create both multiple and one of a kind images. I am also interested in the populist tradition in printmaking, in reproducibility and its democratic potential. As a result, my work takes different forms and launches from different platforms, not only as discreet works on paper, but as installation and as temporary public project.
