Since graduating from KU in 1987, Mark Ritchie has studied or worked in the U.K., Indiana, Georgia, Texas and now Wyoming. He has been teaching printmaking and drawing at the University of Wyoming for over ten years and now holds the rank of associate professor.
Travel has been important to his work. Several visits and some language study in Morocco, a portion of a sabbatical leave in Finland and India and subsequent travel to India have all informed his work. He moves between small works influenced by illustrative works on paper and large-scale folded works. Both are influenced by non-western traditions and explore the role of such works as image and object/ artifact. He has been fortunate to exhibit work both nationally and internationally and enjoy the community that exists with printmaking communities in particular.
