The graduate program is usually three years in length and normally consists of 60 semester credit hours, including thesis and/or exhibition, in courses approved by the department and by the student’s graduate faculty committee. The exact number of credits required for the degree shall be determined with reference to the experience of the individual student as well as to the relationship of the student’s background to the program the student wishes to pursue as a graduate student in the Department of Design. A student may concentrate in one or more areas of specialization within the department.
The Department of Design offers a Master of Fine Arts degree with specialization in ceramics, metalsmithing and jewelry design, textile design (weaving and surface design), and scenography. Please see the Art Department for information on graduate studies in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and expanded media (performance, installation and mixed media).
For ceramics, metalsmithing and jewelry design, and textile design only.
